The Blue Hour, Loch Morie, Ross-shire, Scottish Highlands

The Blue Hour, Loch Morie, Ross-shire, Scottish Highlands

Heather Leslie Ross writes:
Loch Morie is one of our favourite places to go, it's not far from home, an hours walk to reach it and it's always beautiful whatever the weather.
This was just before the mist really closed in, after the sun had set when you get that fabulous "blue hour".

Off to sea

Well this is a bit awkward, my own photo was nominated. Lorna says, "I found it very difficult to make up my mind... but I eventually decided I'd like to nominate Emma Maxwell's Off To Sea. It's just so atmospheric, and so very... well, Scotland."

ceri-images tells us a bit more about how he came to take this dramatic picture, he says: "...that photo was taken on a beautiful day..was sunny in findhorn but there was an approaching har comin off the sea...from my house in forres i can see findhorn so i jumped in the car to get there asap...the har had reached half of findhorn bay and i was right on the edge thou it didnt last for long..in the har it was cold, dark and wet-almost a complete opposite of the sunny weather moments before...the har can travel inland and i have pictures of it from califer hill -a viewpoint that looks right over the north of scotland..its creeps up the hill slowly and then down when the sunlight recedes...quite eeire and beautiful to watch..."

Citadel

MinoltaSnapper nominates AJB photograghy for his photo "Citadel". She writes: " Exposed to give a dark silhouette full of little chimneys against an orange sunset sky, this is a striking image. Alan has placed the tower in the middle of the shot, perhaps against the 'rule of thirds' but here it works well. The clouds catching the light give form and interest to the sky, and the two tower windows peep out from the darkness, quite making the shot - without those, it's just a cardboard silhouette; with them, the shot has life. Beautiful capture!"

Citadel

At the upper end of the Castlegate in Aberdeen stands The Salvation Army Citadel, an effective castellated mansion, on the site of the medieval Aberdeen Castle. Castlegate was the site of the castle gates until its destruction in 1308, hence the name of the area.

The ipernity Scotland photo blog

The idea is that one person nominates a photo for the blog from the Scotland group. The person whose photo was nominated then nominates the next person, again out of the pool of photos in the Scotland group, preferably a fairly recent submission to the group. To get involved and nominate a photo go to the ipernity Scotland group:http://www.ipernity.com/group/25483

I will then post these photos (making sure I have permission) to this photo blog. To begin I nominate afwrite for his wonderful photo of Loch Morlich Sunset, Sunset over Cairngorms reflected in Loch Morlich 4.20pm 23rd December 2006.
